DAVIS, Calif. -- A grueling start to the spring season finally came to a close on Sunday as the No. 57 UC Davis men's tennis team extended its season-best winning streak to five straight matches after sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Holy Names and Sonoma State by identical 7-0 scores at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.

Wrapping up a stretch that saw them play 11 matches in 18 days -- including five matches against nationally ranked competition -- UC Davis improved to 8-3 overall with the victories and extended its longest winning streak since taking six-in-a-row back on Feb. 22-March 26 of last year. The two wins also extended the Aggies home winning streak, claiming their 13th and 14th consecutive victories at the Marya Welch Tennis Center dating back to 2014.

Opening the day against the Hawks, who came in ranked No. 33 in the Oracle/ITA Division II rankings in only the third year of the program's existence, UC Davis rattled off a pair of quick doubles wins at the top two spots in the lineup for the 1-0 lead -- the third straight match that the Aggies have laid claim to the doubles point.

UC Davis then ran roughshod through singles, posting six straight-set victories, including three sets with 6-0 shutouts. Junior Bryce McKelvie won for the eighth straight time, posting a 6-2, 6-0, win over Iva Parra at No. 3 to clinch the contest, while No. 38 Alec Adamson won for the third straight contest after a winless start to the year, posting a 6-3, 6-2, victory over Matt Halligan at No. 1.

In his spring singles debut, senior Adam Levie defeated Adam Duong, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6, while senior Brett Bacharach (6-0, 6-4) at No. 2, along with juniors Jesse Ross (6-3, 6-2) at No. 4 and Eli Whittle (6-1, 6-3) at No. 5, posted victories to wrap up the shutout.

A quick turnaround then saw UC Davis duplicate its morning effort against Sonoma State sweeping doubles and taking all six singles in straight sets en route to the win. Adamson and Levie finished off a 2-0 afternoon with a win at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point, while Levie made his first appearance at No. 5 singles, posting a 6-1, 6-0, win over Christian Francisco.

Junior James Wade, who sat out singles against Holy Names, improved to 3-0 on the year at the No. 1 singles spot with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Daniel Holz, while McKelvie was pressed into duty, posting a straight-set win at No. 6 to run his winning streak to nine after Lam was a late scratch.

Ross at No. 3 and Whittle at No. 4 played in those spots for the first time this season, each posting straight set wins over Logan Liddell and Sullivan Roche, respectively, while Alec Adamson dropped one spot and clinched a 6-0, 6-4, win at No. 2 to wrap up the day.

The Aggies return to the court on Valentine's Day, traveling across the Causeway to take on rival Sacramento State at 1 p.m. -- the team's only remaining match until the beginning of March.
