SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - For the second straight day, UC Davis faced a nationally ranked squad when the team visited the UCSB Tennis Courts to face the No. 60-ranked Gauchos Sunday afternoon.
As was the case the previous day when the Aggies faced No. 21 UCLA, Tiffany Pham and Alex Huie won their doubles match by a 6-4 score, to tie the round's team score at one apiece.
Unfortunately for UC Davis, UCSB won the final match in progress to capture the first overall team point of the day. Combined with the Gauchos' three singles victories, the host team ended up winning the inaugural Big West match of the season, for both teams, by a 4-0 margin.
Once the Gauchos collected their fourth team point, to seal their victory, the remaining three singles matches ended immediately thereafter.
UC Davis will end its five-match road swing through San Diego, and Southern California Monday morning with a 10 a.m. league contest at Cal Poly, and enter the Mustang Tennis Complex with a 3-4 overall and 0-1 Big West record. UCSB will continue its season with a 2-4 and 1-0 record.
The doubles paring of Huie and Pham are now 3-2 this season, and are responsible for just under half of the Aggies' doubles victories recorded this spring.
