HONOLULU - UC Davis outshot Hawai'i 13-12, earned eight of the 11 corner kicks during Sunday night's Big West Conference road match at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium, and remained within striking distance until the final minutes of a match that the Rainbow Wahine won by a 2-0 score.
UC Davis will return home with a 5-6-3 overall and 1-1-1 Big West record; Hawai'i will continue its season with records of 9-3-1 and 2-2.
Even though the Rainbow Wahine struck first in the 27th minute, UC Davis was the more aggressive of the two teams the rest of the night since it was the Aggies who took 10 of the final 16 shots recorded by both squads.
Including Celina Minissian's shot, which hit the crossbar flush, UC Davis forced the Rainbow Wahine to make key saves on three occasions just to preserve their lead after taking a 1-0 lead.
But it was a UH goal scored in the 83rd minute that sealed the result for both teams, a shot that pushed its lead to a two-goal margin in the waning minutes of the match.
Minissian led all Aggies with four shots, and was one of nine players responsible for her team's total.
Including its 3 p.m. match on Thursday, against UC Irvine, women's soccer's next three straight matches will take place at Aggie Soccer Field. Also visiting campus throughout the upcoming weeks are UC Riverside (10/16) and Long Beach State (10/21).
