BERKELEY, Calif. -- The ninth-seeded UC Davis duo of freshman David Goulak and junior Tommy Lam upset the top-seeded doubles pairing of Cormac Clissold and Thomas Laurent of Oregon in the round of 16 on Saturday morning, punching their ticket to the quarterfinals of the 2016 ITA Northwest Regionals at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley, Calif.

Goulak and Lam cruised past the tournament's top seed with an 8-1, setting up a clash with Fresno State's sixth-seeded team of Euan McIntosh and Youssef Hassan on Sunday for a berth in the semifinals. The Aggie duo is 2-0 this weekend following a first-round bye.

They are the lone UC Davis players left standing after the team of Bryce McKelvie and James Wade fell to the Washington tandem of Amit Batta and Mitch Stewart, 8-3, while Wade and teammate Jesse Ross fell in the round of 16 singles bracket on Saturday afternoon.

Just hours earlier in the round of 32, after rain forced singles matches indoors late Friday night, Wade posted a three-set upset of ninth-seeded Gal Hakak from Washington, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1, while Ross took out Gonzaga's Vincent Rettke in a straight-set marathon, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (10).

The win pitted Wade against the tournament's top seed in California's Andre Goransson on Saturday, who came away with a, 6-3, 6-1, victory, while Ross took the opening set against Portland's Mathieu Garcia, 6-4, before the Pilot answered with wins of 6-1 and 6-4 to close out the match.

Senior Eli Whittle and Goulak also posted wins in a round-robin singles consolation bracket, with Whittle defeating Eastern Washington's Scott Paz, 6-3, 6-3, and Goulak defeating Santa Clara's Jesus Tapiador Barajas, 6-2, 6-0.
