Doubles duo into round of 16 at ITA Regionals

Oct. 14, 2016

BERKELEY, Calif. -- The UC Davis men's tennis team continued to enjoy success in doubles during this weekend's ITA Northwest Regionals in the Bay Area, as two of the Aggies' tandems have moved into the round of 16 following wins on Friday on day two of tournament play.

Due to rain in the area, Friday's doubles matches were played indoors at the Broadway Tennis Center in Burlingame, Calif., instead of the Hellman Tennis Complex on the California campus. Friday's singles matches were delayed and also forced indoors, scheduled to begin on Friday night at 8:30 p.m., at the Broadway Tennis Center and the Bay Club in San Francisco.

Results will be available late Friday night and posted on the tournament website at http://www.tennisinformation.com/tourny/5/2/4/4/7/4/7/default.asp as soon as they are available.

During the morning session both of UC Davis' seeded duos of freshman David Goulak and Tommy Lam, as well as the senior tandem of Bryce McKelvie and James Wade, posted victories over opponents from Pacific. The ninth-seeded team of Goulak and Lam outlasted the team of Miguel Diaz and Ross Watson for an 8-5 win, while McKelvie and Wade handed the Tigers' Nathan Hampton and Tadiwa Chinamo an 8-4 loss.

Goulak and Lam move on and are scheduled to face Oregon's top-seeded duo of Cormac Clissold and Thomas Laurent on Saturday, while McKelvie and Wade will take on Washington Amit Batta and Mitch Stewart in the round of 16. The Huskies' duo advanced via an upset of Stanford's ninth-seeded pairing of David Wilczynski and William Geneson.

In other doubles action, the Aggies' Everett Maltby and Max Pham fell to Stanford's ninth-seeded team of Sameer Kumar and Yale Goldberg, 8-6, while the duo of Jesse Ross and Eli Whittle fell to Pacific's fifth-seeded team of Alex Gianini and Jose Chamba, 8-2.

Friday night's singles play features four UC Davis student-athletes in action looking for berths in the round of 16: Wade will take on Washington's Gal Hakak, Maltby will face Oregon's Jayson Amos, McKelvie is scheduled to take on California's Filip Bergevi, and Ross will meet Gonzaga's Vincent Rettke.

In other action this afternoon in Southern California, senior Alec Adamson had his run at the Oracle/ITA Masters event come to an end in Friday's consolation bracket, falling to Vinny Gillespie of Drake, 6-1, 7-6 (4).
