SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- UC Davis junior Everett Maltby won the Flight "B" singles crown and teamed up with freshman David Goulak to take first in the Flight "C" doubles bracket, highlighting the Aggies' weekend at the UC Santa Barbara Classic in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Maltby capped off a perfect 4-0 weekend in singles with a quartet of straight-set victories, opening with a 6-2, 6-3, win over UCLA's Daniel Gealer, and posting a pair of victories over San Francisco's Woravin Kumthonkittikul (USF), 6-3, 6-0, and teammate Tommy Lam, 7-5, 7-5, to advance to the championship. Once there, Maltby eased past Fresno State's Xander Veys, 6-3, 7-6, on Sunday to clinch the title.

One of three doubles teams to advance after day one, Maltby and Goulak were the only UC Davis tandem to emerge unscathed on Saturday's second day of play, taking down the Gauchos' duo of Teague Hamilton and Cody Rakela, 8-3, to advance to Sunday's championship. The Aggies' pair continued to roll, flying past Cal Poly's Antoine Noel and Axel Damiens, 8-1, for the crown.

Lam won a pair of matches and eventually finished fourth in Flight "B", while freshman Max Pham finished third in Flight "C" singles, opening with wins over Fresno State's Jeremy Mosser, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5, and Brian Lee of Saint Mary's, 7-5, 6-4, before falling to San Francisco's Christian Brockstedt in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4, in the semifinals.

Pham closed out his stay in Santa Barbara with a win over Jacob Lagman of Saint Mary's, 6-3, 6-1, to clinch a 3-1 record for the tournament and third place, then teamed up with senior Jesse Ross to win the Flight "B" doubles third-place match over Cal Poly's Tim Tan and Rafa Lenhard, 8-6.

Overall, every Aggie won at least one singles contest on the weekend, with Jesse Ross (2-2), Goulak (2-2), and Lam (2-2), winning multiple contests to join Pham and Maltby.

UC Davis returns to action this week, with the majority of the squad making the short trip to Berkeley, Calif., to take part in the ITA Northwest Regionals hosted by California beginning on Thursday (Oct. 13) and running through Monday (Oct. 17). Meanwhile, senior Alec Adamson will head to Southern California to join some of the nation's top players at the Oracle/ITA Masters tournament co-hosted by the Malibu Racquet Club and Pepperdine University from Oct. 13-16.
