Oct. 1, 2016 Draws/Results
BERKELEY, Calif. - Led by Kristina Breisacher's straight-set upset over second-ranked Carlijn Ketting (Nevada), a slew of Aggies in both singles and doubles action advanced to the final rounds of their respective brackets, and will return to the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts in Berkeley, California, with a chance to collect championship hardware on Sunday.
Breisacher's three-set triumph -- she lost the first set 6-2, won the second set tiebreaker, 7-4, before clinching the third set with a 6-2 score -- and Samantha Martino's 7-5, 6-1 win now sets the stage for a possible all-Aggie showdown in the White Flight's main draw. Martino will take on top-seeded Vanessa Nommenson (Saint Mary's) at the same time her teammate will face Kate Cusick (BYU), the draw's third seed.
Both semifinals will start at noon. If UC Davis' players are victorious, they will square off against one another for the singles championship at 2 p.m.
By powering past Jiayu Mu (San Francisco) 6-0, 6-2 in her consolation quarterfinal, Kamila Kecki will also return to Berkeley for a semifinal match of her own. At 10:30 a.m., she will face Demi Daniels (BYU). The winner of that match will advance to the flight's 1 p.m. championship.
Breisacher and Martino's Sunday schedule is going to be a busy one since both Aggies also won their respective doubles matches on Saturday.
Breisacher and Isabella von Ebbe began the second day of action in Berkeley with an 8-2 win against fellow Big West foes Kyla Jarrar and McKenzie Majerle (UCSB). Shortly thereafter, the pair claimed a spot in the White Flight Doubles final with an 8-2 win against Nevada's Adriana Grgelyova and Ketting.
They will face a familiar face since Martino and Cal Poly's Susanne Boyden also collected two doubles wins on Saturday. The first came against San Francisco's Amber Del Rosario and Sarina Chhabra by an 8-4 score; the second took place against Boyden's teammates when fellow Mustangs Abigail Bacharach and Claire Bouquet lost this semifinal by an 8-6 score.
Sunday's Aggie-dominated doubles championship will start at 9 a.m.
