DAVIS, Calif. - Lani-Rae Green won a three-set match at No. 2 singles to tie the Aggies' match against Pacific before Frederique Sleiffer's three-set win at No. 5 clinched it as the UC Davis women's tennis team rallied from behind to beat the host Tigers in a season-opening match at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.

The nonconference match was originally scheduled for Saturday before inclement weather pushed it back one day.

It was an exciting opening victory for the Aggies, who beat the Tigers for the sixth time in nine meetings since moving to Div. I. Trailing 1-0 after dropping the doubles point, UC Davis fell behind 3-2 with only two singles matches still on the courts. But Green finished off a comeback win over Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz with a 6-4 win in third set. She dropped the opener, 6-1, before tying it with a 6-4 victory in the second. Her win in the third-set tied the team score, 3-3.

Sleiffer then clinched the season-opening win with her 6-3 third-set win over Yuki Asami at No. 5. Sleiffer won the first set, 6-2, before Asami evened it with a 6-3 victory in the second. Jessie Lee added another thrilling three-set win for UC Davis, beating Katie Dyson, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 3. Kamila Kecki posted a 6-1, 6-3 sweep over Sabrina Rodriguez at No. 6 to round out the Aggies' singles wins.

Pacific got Sunday off to a strong start, taking two of three doubles matches to secure an early team point. Dyson and Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz posted a 6-2 win over Sleiffer and Kecki at No. 2 while Asami and Anneroos Nederstigt beat Tiffany Pham and Isabella von Ebbe, 6-1, at No. 3. Kristy Jorgensen and Alex Huie were leading their No. 1 doubles match, 4-3, before play was stopped after the Tigers' clinch.

The win avenged a 4-3 home loss to Pacific last season and gave UC Davis a 6-3 record in season-openers during its Div. I era.

UC Davis hosts Portland State at 1:30 p.m. on Friday in its 2016 home opener.
