LOS ANGELES -- Host and eighth-ranked USC took the doubles point and posted straight-set victories in five of the six singles contests on Friday afternoon, handing No. 57 UC Davis a 7-0 defeat in the second match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the David X. Marks Tennis Center in Los Angeles.

The Aggies (0-2) will meet No. 33 Pepperdine in the consolation match on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Waves fell to No. 37 Tulane, 4-0, in the first match of the day, setting up a meeting between the Trojans and the Green Wave for a spot in the ITA National Indoor Championships.

Battling its second straight top-20 opponent after facing No. 18 Stanford on Wednesday, the Aggies fell into an early hole with USC in only the second-ever meeting with the perennial powerhouse Trojans, posting quick 6-1 and 6-2 wins at the top two doubles spots for the early 1-0 lead in the match.

With the scene shifting to singles, USC earned wins at Nos. 1, 5, and 6 in straight sets to clinch the match. However, UC Davis did not go down without a fight as junior James Wade was able to extend his contest against Laurens Verboven to three-sets, rebounding from a 6-3 loss in the opening set to draw even with a 6-4 win in the second. Verboven was also to close out the contest with a 6-1 win in the third.

Senior Brett Bacharach forced No. 69 Logan Smith to a first-set tiebreak before falling, 7-6 (4), 6-4, and sophomore Bryce McKelvie pushed No. 83 Jack Devine in a, 7-5, 7-5, defeat at the No. 4 spot.
