MORAGA, Calif. -- Senior midfielder Ryan Gross collected the game-winner with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation and classmate Lucas Mohageg added a goal and an assist, helping lift visiting UC Davis to a 2-1 win at Saint Mary's on Thursday evening at Saint Mary's Stadium.

The victory gave the Aggies back-to-back wins for the first time this season, improving them to 3-5 overall heading into Sunday's non-conference finale against San Francisco at 1 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Field. The Gaels fell to 3-5-1 overall with the loss, extending their winless streak against UC Davis to three.

Gross' winner was his third goal of the year -- and his second game-winner -- coming off a hard cross from Mohageg that was deflected in front of the goal right to the feet of Gross, who finished from close range to snap the 1-1 deadlock. The Aggies then had to sweat out the final seconds as a corner by Stephen Dougherty found Will Kendall in the right place at the right time, but the attempt was cleared off the line by a UC Davis defender to secure the win.

The Aggies held an 8-2 shot advantage in the opening period, but it was Saint Mary's that jumped on the scoreboard first via the foot of Kendall, who one-timed a shot in stride off a pass from Gerardo Mendoza for the 1-0 lead.

Momentum continued to stay with the Gaels until later in the period when Gross was taken down from behind by a Gaels defender, drawing a penalty shot. Mohageg, who converted a penalty for the game-winner against Pacific in last Sunday's victory, did so once again to tie the match, catching goalkeeper Andrew Konstantino diving the wrong way, and burying a hard shot to the left post to make it 1-1.

The score was Mohageg's fourth of the year, while the assist on Gross' was his second of the season, matching his offensive totals from all of last year and giving him eight goals and four assists for his career.

UC Davis held a 17-6 shot advantage for the match, including putting seven of those attempts on frame, and were led by three shots apiece from Matt Wiesenfarth, Justin Wright, and Miguel Acevedo. The Aggies also had a shot by Matt Baringer ring off the post in the 31st minute and another rattle the crossbar off the foot of Wright in the 41st minute, while a defender cleared another attempt off the line in the 71st minute to preserve the 1-1 tie.
