SAN FRANCISCO -- UC Davis junior Alec Adamson handed No. 2-seeded Uros Petronijevic of San Diego a three-set defeat in his opening match on Friday, highlighting the Aggies' first day at the 2015 Battle in the Bay Classic held at the California Tennis Club in San Francisco.

Adamson, who won his first round match at this event for the second straight year, bounced back after dropping the first set, 6-3, shutting out Petronijevic in a second-set tiebreaker and outlasting the Torero senior in the third en route to a 3-6, 7-6 (0), 6-4, victory.

Petronijevic, who hails from Serbia, was last year's West Coast Conference Player of the Year as a junior, was ranked as high as #30 in the nation, and was an NCAA Singles Championship qualifier.

Adamson advances to face Stanford's Anthony Tsodikov, who won a pair of matches over Pepperdine's Petr Iamachkine (7-5, 6-4) and Pacific's Daniel Alameh (6-3, 6-2) in straight sets to reach Saturday's round of 16. Adamson and Tsodikov will face-off at 11:30 a.m.

In his first appearance at the event, James Wade was locked in a battle with USC freshman Logan Smith, as the two split a pair of marathon tiebreakers in the first two sets. The Aggies' junior opened with a 7-6 (4) win in the first set, but could not close the door against Smith in the second, falling 7-6 (3). The Trojans' newcomer then advanced with a 6-3 win in the third.

Wade falls into the consolation bracket where he is scheduled to face Pacific's Alex Giannini on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Giannini fell to San Diego's Jordan Angus -- the tournament's No. 7 seed -- in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, in Friday's opening round.

In doubles, the UC Davis senior duo of Brett Bacharach and Adam Levie were up against stiff competition in the opening round, taking on Stanford's tandem of David Hsu and Tsodikov, but the Cardinal pairing was too strong, eliminating the Aggies, 8-5, in their first round clash.
