FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Senior outside hitter Kaylin Squyres tallied her second straight double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs, but UC Davis endured a 25-21, 25-19, 25-17 sweep at the hands of 12th-ranked tournament host Colorado State in Saturday's action at the Rams Volleyball Classic at Moby Arena.
The Aggies slip to 0-2 on the year. The Rams remain unbeaten at 2-0.
Squyres was the lone UC Davis player in double figures in kills or digs. Redshirt freshman Kelechi Ohiri added an errorless 5-for-7 while sophomore Aima Eichie opened her season with five total blocks, but the Aggies struggled to a .139 hitting average in the match.
CSU, which more than doubled its guest's hitting with a .279 clip, received 10 kills from each of Adrianna Culbert and Alex Reid.
UC Davis never managed the lead in either of the first or third sets, and took a short-lived edge late in the second. Eichie posted a pair of blocks amidst a 4-0 run that allowed the Aggies to pull from a 15-13 to a 17-15 advantage, only to see Colorado State rebound with five unanswered.
Squyres posted seven kills in the opener, four in the second, then 3-for-11 attacking in the finale.
Colorado State, the preseason Mountain West Conference favorite, went 31-3 and advanced to the NCAA regional semifinal in 2014.
The Aggies finish up the Rams Volleyball Classic against Baylor on Sunday. Match time is noon Pacific.
