Seattle stuns UC Davis with early barrage

Box Score Aug. 28, 2015

Box Score

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Host Seattle scored four times in the first half and held a 16-6 advantage in shots on the night as the Redhawks stunned visiting UC Davis, 6-0, in the season opener for both teams on Friday night at Championship Field.

Winless in their last three season openers, the Aggies fell to 0-1 overall on the season, while Seattle improved to 1-0, winning for the first time in the series since a 1-0 neutral site victory in 2010.

Spencer Williams and Lucas Mohageg finished with two shots apiece for UC Davis, both putting shots on frame in the first 20 minutes of the match before the Redhawks exploded for four scores in a seven-minute span midway through the first half -- three of those coming on penalty kicks after Seattle players were taken down in the box -- all three converted by Hamza Haddadi, who also added a fourth goal in the 48th minute.

David Olsen added his first of the year in the 27th minute to help Seattle to a 4-0 lead at the break and Robbie Landeros capped the scoring with a goal in the 68th minute. Goalkeeper Shane Haworth finished with five saves in posting the shutout, including a stop on a penalty attempt by Ryan Gross in the 71st minute, deflecting the shot off the post and keeping the Aggies off the scoreboard.

Mohageg, who had a header saved in the 11th minute, had another turned away late as his shot off a free kick just outside the box in the 80th minute went high off the hands of Haworth, who also stopped a scoring chance by Miguel Acevedo with just over five minutes to play.

UC Davis will look to regroup against one of the top teams in the nation on Sunday (Aug. 30), remaining in town to take on No. 10 Washington at 7:30 p.m. at Husky Soccer Field.
