INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- A historic 2015 season for the UC Davis men's tennis team came to an end on Friday afternoon, as the second-seeded Aggies fell to No. 3-seeded UC Santa Barbara, 4-1, in the semifinals of the Big West Conference Tournament at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.

UC Davis finished the year at 16-6 overall and 4-1 in the Big West, claiming a share of the league's regular season title for the first time ever, while setting school Division I records for overall and Big West victories. The Gauchos improved to 14-9 overall and advanced to face top-seeded UC Irvine for the tournament championship on Sunday.

A slow start in doubles play put the Aggies in an early hole as UCSB posted wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots in the lineup to take a 1-0 lead. The scene shifted to singles where Tobias Galskov and Teague Hamilton clinched straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 6 over James Wade and Jesse Ross to make it a 3-0 contest.

Sophomore Bryce McKelvie put UC Davis on the board with a 7-5, 6-2, victory at No. 3 against Cody Rakela, and the Aggies were looking to rally as Brett Bacharach was up 3-1 in the third and Alec Adamson was ahead in a second-set tiebreak. However, freshman Everett Maltby could not hold out against Erik Johnsson at No. 5, falling in three sets by the scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, to clinch the match for the Gauchos.
