Aggies, Tigers split season series

Box Score April 21, 2015

Box Score

STOCKTON, Calif. - UC Davis scored twice in the top of the fourth inning to cut a four-run deficit in half at the midway point of Tuesday's non-conference game at Bill Simoni Field, but the Tigers were able to secure a split of the season series by scoring four late runs to defeat the Aggies, 8-2.

UC Davis run-ruled Pacific, 10-1, in its home opener and arrived to Stockton seeking its first season sweep against the Tigers since 2009.

The Aggies will return to Big West play on Saturday with a 17-23 record, Pacific will enter its next league matchup with a 14-33 mark.

Last weekend, the Aggies secured three wins in Santa Barbara by scoring in the first inning of all three contests. In Tuesday's tilt, it wasPacific that scored its first three runs in the bottom of the first inning, all with two outs.

When the Tigers returned to the plate in the following frame, Melanie Habib extended her team's lead to a 4-0 margin after Sara Anderson hit a triple to straightaway center.

As was the case in the first inning when one runner was stranded at second base, another two were left in scoring position in the top of the third before the Aggies lit up the scoreboard in the top of the fourth.

With two outs, UC Davis chopped Pacific's lead in half when Christa Castello punched a single to shallow left field. Zboralske, who started the inning with a five-pitch walk, and Krista Bava, who reached on her sixth double of the year, scored the Aggies' first runs of the evening.

Even though the Tigers scored once in the fifth, Alicia Paine prevented Pacific from blowing the game wide open when she forced Taylor Brink to end the inning on a swinging strikeout with the bases loaded.

The Aggies were not as fortunate in the following frame when Cassidy Gustafson stretched the Tigers' lead when she hit an 0-1 pitch over the fence in left center.

UC Davis' seven-game road swing will end this weekend at UC Riverside; first pitch for Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's series finale will start at 12 p.m. Live stats for all three games are available at ucdavisaggies.com.
