FIRST PITCH: Riding the second-longest winning streak in the program's Division I history, the UC Davis baseball team (18-7-1 overall, 3-0 in the Big West Conference) carries a seven-game winning streak into Les Musakami Stadium this weekend for a four-game series against league foe Hawai'i beginning Thursday (April 2) in Honolulu. Only the first three games of the series will count toward the conference standings, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. HT each night. Sunday's non-conference finale will begin at 1:05 p.m. HT.

IN THE POLLS: Neither UC Davis, nor Hawai'i, are ranked among the national polls entering the week.

YOU'RE ON THE AIR: Due to scheduling conflicts, this year's broadcast schedule on KDVS 90.3 FM has changed a bit, beginning with this weekend's series against UC Riverside. The station is scheduled to carry games one and three against the Highlanders, as well as contests against Saint Mary's (March 31), Sacramento State (April 7 & May 5), and all three games of the Aggies' Big West series against Cal Poly (May 21-23).

"HI, MOM!": Thanks to the Big West Conference's agreement with ESPN, the first two games of the Aggies' league series at UC Irvine on April 17 and 18 will be televised on ESPN3 -- two of 17 Big West baseball contests to be televised across the ESPN3 and ESPNU platforms this spring. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, from Anteater Ballpark. A complete schedule is available online at http://www.bigwest.org/assets/default/2.25.15%20ESPN3%20Baseball-Softball.pdf.

SCOUTING THE RAINBOW WARRIORS: Hawai'i enters the weekend with a 9-19 overall record and an 0-3 mark in Big West play after being swept by UC Irvine on opening weekend... The Rainbow Warriors have dropped their last four games when you include a 9-3 loss at Loyola Marymount prior to the series versus the Anteaters, and eight of their last 10 overall... Junior infielder Alex Sawelson leads all regulars with a .277 average in 24 games, with three doubles and nine RBI... Senior outfielder Kaeo Aliviado is batting .269, but has a team-high four home runs and ranks second with 16 RBI, while freshman Eric Ramirez paces the team with 19 RBI to go with a .276 average... Hawai'i's weekend rotation of L.J. Brewster (3-3, 1.90 ERA), Tyler Brashears (3-3, 2.74 ERA), and Jarrett Arakawa (1-0, 1.06), has combined to post a 2.10 ERA while opponents are hitting no higher than .241 against any member of the trio.

SERIES NOTES VERSUS HAWAI'I: The Rainbow Warriors lead the all-time series with the Aggies, 7-5, but UC Davis has won two straight in the series with Hawai'i after taking two-of-three last season at Dobbins Stadium... The Aggies are just 2-6 on the road against the Rainbow Warriors, including a 3-0 sweep at the hands of Hawai'i in the inaugural Big West Conference meeting in 2013... UC Davis has lost six straight in Honolulu dating back to its last win on March 29, 2012, a 5-3 victory for the Aggies.

A LOOK BACK - UC DAVIS 11, SAINT MARY'S 2: Izaak Silva finished with three hits and drove in three runs and the host Aggies used a pair of four-run innings to bust open a close game, helping lift UC Davis to an 11-2 win over Saint Mary's on March 31 at Dobbins Stadium. Max Cordy (6-0) earned the win on the designated staff day, striking out four over three innings, while Nat Hamby, Justin Mullins, Spencer Henderson, and Cameron Law shut the door, striking out five over six scoreless innings of relief. Eight of the nine Aggie starters finished with hits as UC Davis racked up 12 on the day, while the defense stranded 12 Gaels on the basepaths -- including the bases loaded twice.

SILVA NAMED BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hot-hitting senior catcher Izaak Silva was named the Big West Player of the Week on March 30, after helping UC Davis to a perfect 4-0 week and a sweep of its opening league series against UC Riverside. The weekly honor is the first for Silva's career as the Soquel, California, native becomes the third Aggie to be honored this season, joining fellow player of the week Nick Lynch and pitcher of the week Raul Jacobson, who swept the honor on March 16. The senior backstop hit .471 (8-for-17) for the week, slugging three doubles, scoring four times, and driving in six runs. Silva slugged .647 for the four games and was perfect defensively in 38 chances behind the plate, including erasing a pair of base runners in a tight, 9-8, come-from-behind win in game two of the series against the Highlanders. Extending his hitting streak to five games (and 12 of his last 13) with his performances this past week, Silva collected multiple hits in three of the Aggies' four games to give him six on the year, while posting his second and third multi-RBI games of the season.

OH, YES, THEY CALL IT A STREAK: UC Davis' 11-2 win on Tuesday over Saint Mary's marked the seventh consecutive victory for the Aggies -- the second-longest winning streak in the program's Division I history, standing behind only the eight straight games won from March 9-25, 2008.

OPENING ACT: When the final out was recorded to wrap up the Aggies' 12-3 series-opening win over UC Riverside on Friday, it marked the first time that UC Davis had opened Big West Conference play with a win since the Aggies defeated Pacific, 4-1, on March 28, 2008 -- their inaugural game in the league. Taking it two wins further, UC Davis posted a sweep over a Big West foe for the first time since it took all three from the Highlanders in 2013, its fifth sweep overall in league play, and the 23rd series win over a Big West opponent in 62 total weekend series.

NO FOOLIN': Eighteen wins and counting. UC Davis clinched it's 18th victory of the season in Tuesday's rout of Saint Mary's, the most wins for the program before April 1 since the 2004 squad posted a 22-7 mark through the first two months of the season. This year's count is tied for the sixth-highest win total before April Fools Day, trailing the 2004 squad, 21 wins in 1985, 20 wins in both 1993 and 1999, and 19 victories in 1996.

CLOSING IN: Entering the weekend with a 18-7-1 overall record and a 3-0 mark in Big West play, the Aggies stand just five overall wins and four Big West victories shy of last year's totals when UC Davis finished 23-31 overall and 7-17 in league games.

"SERIES"-OUS BUSINESS: With their sweep of UCR, the Aggies remained unbeaten in six weekend series this year (5-0-1), with four of the five series wins coming on the road. The only "blemish" on UC Davis' perfect record thus far was a split of its four-game series with Gonzaga on Feb. 20-22 at Dobbins Stadium. The Aggies have won four road series in a single season for the first time in their Division I history, while the five series wins surpasses their total from all of 2014 and are the most since the 2012 squad took home victories in eight weekend series.

*THIS* CLOSE: On paper, the 2014 season could have looked much better as the Aggies fought their way through 17 games decided by a single run, posting just a 7-10 mark in those contests, with an additional nine more games decided by two runs (3-6). This season, UC Davis has turned things around in that department, posting a 5-2 mark in one-run games, including wins in its last four.

SIX PACK: Junior right-hander Max Cordy racked up his sixth win of the year against no losses with his "staff day" three innings of work against Saint Mary's, posting the most wins for a UC Davis hurler since Dayne Quist finished the year 6-3 in 13 appearances back in 2012 and stands tied with 13 other pitchers across the country for the NCAA lead. A seventh win this year matches Quist's 2010 win total when he finished 7-4.

THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING: UC Davis has collected double-digit hits in each of its last four games against UC Riverside and Saint Mary's, giving the Aggies 13 such offensive performances this season. The 17 hits in the series finale against the Highlanders on April 29 were the most since UC Davis banged out 18 in a 13-1 win at Seattle on March 7.

JOHNNY ON THE SPOT: With senior outfielder Kevin Barker out due to injury, senior John Williams has taken the reins in centerfield and has proceeded to rip the seams off the ball. The senior from Los Gatos, California, carries a seven-game hitting streak into this weekend's games in Hawai'i, batting .448 (13-for-29) with seven runs scored and seven RBI, with five of his 13 hits going for extra bases and multiple hits in four of his last five games. In the process, Williams has raised his batting average 112 points to .328 on the year -- good for fifth on the team.

"THIS ONE GOES TO 11": Senior Tino Lipson holds the honor of the longest hitting streak by an Aggie this season, carrying a run of 11 consecutive games with a hit into Honolulu this weekend. The El Cerrito, California, native is batting .478 (22-for-46) with five doubles, two triples, nine runs scored and 12 RBI, during that stretch, raising his average 105 points in that span to .346 on the year -- good for third on the team.

WHY STOP AT ONE?: That's apparently been Nick Lynch's motto all season long as his double on Tuesday against Saint Mary's, upped his NATION-leading total to 17 on the year -- edging out five other players by three entering this weekend's contests. The senior from Burlingame, California, is just one shy of Carl Velleno (1999) for 10th on the UC Davis single-season list, while his 42 career doubles moved him past Ryan Coultas and into a tie with current Aggie major leaguer Daniel Descalso (2005-07) for eighth on the all-time list. Lynch needs one more double to match Nolan Sturgeon (1997-00) and Velleno (1996-99) for sixth, and three more to tie Paul Politi (2010-13) for a spot in the top five. Jim Saunders (1979) holds the single-season record with 24, while Robby Tulk smacked 52 doubles from 2001-04 to hold the career mark.

SLASH LINE STANDOUT: Leading the way for one of the Big West Conference's best offenses this season has been Lynch, who entered the week leading the league in average (.402), slugging (.663), and on-base percentage (.504), prior to Tuesday's game with Saint Mary's. Lynch was also tied for the league lead in runs scored (25), leading the league in doubles and total bases, and ranked a close second in hits (37).

ALL ABOUT THOSE BASES, `BOUT THOSE BASES...: No trouble for the Aggies when it comes to extra base hits this season as UC Davis continues to lead the league with 75 extra base hits heading into the week, including a conference-best 63 doubles. With two more against Saint Mary's on Tuesday, the Aggies rank No. 11 in the nation in doubles behind NCAA leader Wake Forest (82).

NO RUNS FOR YOU!: Times two. UC Davis posted back-to-back 1-0 shutouts in wins over Fresno State (March 15) and San Francisco (March 24), marking the first time that the Aggies had shutout two straight opponents since March 11 and March 18, 2012, in wins over Seattle (3-0) and San Jose State (4-0), respectively. According to available year-by-year results that date back to 1960, it was also the first time that UC Davis had won consecutive games by 1-0 scores.

IN LIKE A LION: Let's hope it doesn't go out like a lamb. The month of March was a good one for the UC Davis offense, which hit .319, to go with 104 runs scored, 157 hits, and 48 extra-base hits, in helping the Aggies rack up an 11-3 record in the month. That compared to a rather mundane February that saw UC Davis hit just .278 as a team, to go with 63 runs, and 112 hits over 12 February contests. The power numbers have come along as well as all five of the Aggies home runs this season have come in March, while hitters have drove in 27 more runs in just two more games.

IT'S ALL A BLUR: Did you see that? Could you see that? Opposing catchers, apparently, cannot as the Aggies have wreaked havoc on the basepaths to the tune of 71 stolen bases in 94 attempts -- a number that stands third in the NATION entering this weekends games at Hawai'i, standing behind only Wofford (80) and Texas Southern (74). UC Davis -- which has stolen at least one base in 25 of 26 games this year -- has almost doubles its output from all of last season when they were a combined 38-for-59 in 54 games. The team record for steals was set in 1993 as UC Davis swiped 144 in 191 attempts, while the Big West Conference record is held by UC Santa Barbara, which stole 158 bases in 1990. Should the Aggies reach the century mark, they would become the first Big West school to do so since Cal State Fullerton (112) in 2010.

STOP! THIEVES!: The Aggies' 71 steals are the most for a UC Davis squad since the 1997 team stole 128 bases in 160 attempts, and only the fourth time since that season that the Aggies have stolen 60 bases or more in a year.

THE BRUISE CREW: So, how does one get an opportunity to steal so many bases? Well, there are many, but the one that probably hurts the most is the one the Aggies have been very adept at thus far this season. UC Davis has been plunked by a pitch 53 times this season -- leading the Big West Conference, and standing second in the NATION in that category entering the weekend, trailing only Loyola Marymount (58). Individually, Kevin Barker and Nick Lynch rank tied for 10th in the nation with 10 bruises apiece.

GET THIS MAN AN ICE PACK: Lynch's 10 HBP's this season upped his career total to 46 heading into the week, solidifying his hold on third place on the school's all-time list, just three shy of Carl Velleno (1996-99) and 10 back of career leader Jason Shapiro (1991-94).

SUNDAY BEST: Not that they are saying so, but with senior right-hander Raul Jacobson taking the mound on Sunday's, the Aggies have seemingly saved their best for last. The Orinda, California, native remained unbeaten at 3-0 on the year with UC Davis' 12-3 win in the series finale against UC Riverside, striking out eight and scattering seven hits over seven innings of work. The Aggies are 5-0-1 in Jacobson's six starts this season, leading the rotation with a 2.44 ERA and 37 strikeouts (12 of those looking) in 44.1 innings of work, while going at least seven innings in five of his six starts this season.

SHUT THE DOOR AND CALL ME ZACH: Sophomore right-hander Zach Stone picked up his sixth save of the year to nail down a 1-0 win over San Francisco back on March 24 -- a total that has him tied for second in the Big West entering the week -- continuing a stingy stretch that has him listed among those being considered for the NCBWA's "Stopper of the Year" Award for the second consecutive season (more on that later in these notes). Stone, who is also 2-0 without allowing an earned run (and just one overall) on the year, has been lights out at the end of games in 2015, allowing just seven hits in 15.1 innings, striking out 17 (against only one walk to rank eighth in the NATION in strikeout-to-walk ratio), and holding opponents to a .140 average in 15 appearances.

ZACH ATTACK ON THE RECORD BOOK: Stone's 15 career saves already have him tied for second on the UC Davis all-time list alongside Chris Stromberg (1981-84), needing just four more as an Aggie to match Justin Fitzgerald (2005-08) and his school record of 19 set during his four-year Aggie career.

DO RUN, RUN, RUN...: The Aggies have reached double digits in runs eight times this season -- including three straight contests from March 7-10 (a feat that hadn't been accomplished since 2007) -- the most since the 2013 squad did so nine times. Contributing to those huge numbers are a trio of Aggies who rank among the top 10 in runs scored in the Big West entering the weekend. Senior Nick Lynch ranked tied for the league lead in 25, senior Tino Lipson is tied for fourth with 21, and Austin March is tied for eighth with 18 runs scored. As a team, UC Davis entered the week with 156 runs scored -- good for a three-run lead over second-place UC Santa Barbara in the Big West standings.

EVERYBODY HITS!: Although they will take them any way they can get them, the preferred method for scoring all those runs for the Aggies have been via their 257 hits entering the week -- a total that ranked third in the league -- leading to a league-best .298 average as a team.

WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER: In all, 10 different players have combined to drive in the game-winning run in the Aggies' 18 victories this season after John Williams' winner against San Francisco and Spencer Henderson's go-ahead hit in the opener against UC Riverside, while 10 different players have also come around to score the game-winning runs in 2015, with Tanner Bily and Izaak Silva being the newest members of that club. Nick Lynch leads the way with his three game-winning RBI and Austin March has a pair of walk-off winners this season (Eastern Michigan and UC Riverside), while March, Bily, and Kevin Barker lead the way with three game-winning runs apiece.

"AND ONE": A term usually reserved the Aggie basketball teams, it has come to mean something different on the diamond for UC Davis baseball. At 18-7-1 entering the weekend, the Aggies are one of 18 teams nationally to have a tie tacked on to their record this season: Illinois (21-6-1), South Florida (20-9-1), St. Bonaventure (10-5-1), Southern Miss (15-10-1), NJIT (10-7-1), Nicholls State (14-12-1), Illinois-Chicago (11-10-1), Bakersfield (14-14-1), Florida Gulf Coast (14-14-1), Texas State (12-15-1), Wagner (6-8-1), Rhode Island (6-10-1), Mississippi Valley State (6-15-1), Niagara (5-14-1), Sacred Heart (3-14-1), New Mexico State (4-21-1), Saint Peter's (2-14-1).
