DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis protected the Marya Welch Tennis Center once again in Saturday's non-conference match against Montana State by winning the doubles point, and taking five of six singles matches to record its second 6-1 win of the weekend.

The Aggies will enter Sunday's home match, versus Montana, with a 7-10 overall record, while Montana State will continue its road trip with a 9-8 mark.

Competing against winds that reached more than 20 miles per hour on a consistent basis throughout the afternoon, UC Davis hardly seemed fazed by the breezy conditions.

Layla Sanders and Kristy Jorgensen were the first to finish their doubles match, followed by Frederique Sleiffer and Kamila Kecki who gave the Aggies a 1-0 lead heading into the singles round.

Sanders and Jorgensen defeated Laura Middel and Jessica Brycki, 8-2, while Sleiffer and Kecki topped Liana Bates and Naomi Holopainen, 8-3.

Lani-Rae Green and Jessie Lee were leading 6-2 in their doubles match against Molly Crum and Angelina Philippova before action was halted to prepare for individual competition.

Sleiffer and Jorgensen continued their perfect weekend by winning their respective singles match at No. 4 and No. 2. The former defeated Holopainen, 6-1, 6-4; the latter topped her sibling, Wanda Holopainen, 6-1, 6-1.

The pair is now a perfect 4-0 this weekend as each recorded individual sweeps against the first two teams to face UC Davis as part of its current season-long seven-match homestand.

Green also preserved her perfect individual mark for the week by storming back to down Brycki in three sets. After falling 2-6 in the first set of her match at No. 3, the freshman took the next two, 6-3 and 6-4.

Green has now won all three of her matches played this week and came just a handful of minutes shy of pushing her individual record to 4-0 since her doubles match ended, per ITA rules, once UC Davis took a 1-0 team lead.

Lee, who competed at No. 5, and Kecki, who played at No. 6, each won their singles matchups in straight set fashion by 6-3, 7-5 and 7-5, 6-3 scores. Kecki's victory over Crum capped an individual sweep over all three her Bobcat foes; Lee, who faced Philippova for the second time of the day when they squared off against one another during the singles round, capped another superb performance for UC Davis with her result since she was the last Aggie to finish.

Women's tennis will compete in its third home match in a four-day timespan when Montana visits campus on Sunday morning. First serve for tomorrow's Grizzlies-Aggies contest is scheduled for 11 a.m.
