LONG BEACH, Calif. - UC Davis dropped its 2015 Big West opener, at Long Beach State, in heartbreaking fashion when the 49ers scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning in Saturday's league doubleheader at the 49er Softball Complex. However, the Aggies quickly moved passed that result and rebounded with style by ending its day with an 8-3 win.

Sunday's rubber match will start at 1 p.m.; UC Davis will enter its weekend finale with a 12-15 overall and 1-1 Big West record. After Saturday's twinbill, Long Beach State is now 14-19 and 1-1.

After the 49ers turned a seventh-inning leadoff walk into a walk-off win in Gm. 1, UC Davis exploded for six runs in the its half of the fourth inning to knock Long Beach on its heels at the midway point of Gm. 2.

Aggie starter Dana Cruse allowed only two hits throughout her 4.1 innings in the circle to pick up her second win of the season; Alicia Paine also gave up only two hits in relief to force a rubber-game situation for Sunday's 1 p.m. matchup.

Starting with Christa Castello's hit-by-pitch, UC Davis batted through its lineup and scored six runs, on three hits in its half of the fourth. Brianna Warner reached on a bunt single to third, Ashley Lotoszynski singled to right field, and Amy Nunez singled through the right side of the diamond; combined with Alexis Carney, Katie Robertson and Alexandra Sotomayor, who all reached on 49er errors, the Aggies held an intimidating 6-1 lead.

In all, 11 Aggies faced Long Beach starter Amanda Hansen in her final inning pitched before reliever Selene Polamalu entered the game after that wild half-inning.

Kelly Zboralske and Lotoszynski each kicked-off the Aggies' half of the fifth inning by launching back-to-back solo shots over the left field fence to stretch their team's lead to 8-2.

Zboralske's blast was her first of the season; Lotoszynski's long ball was her team-high third of the year and capped a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.

Lotoszynski drove in two of the Aggies' runs, and scored twice, Castello, Zboralske and Nunez drove in the team's other runs.
