HONOLULU -- The No. 71 UC Davis men's tennis team saw its six-match winning streak come to an end on Friday, as the nation's No. 1-ranked Division II squad, Hawai'i Pacific, handed the Aggies a 7-2 defeat at the UH Tennis Center in Honolulu.

UC Davis dropped to 13-4 overall with the loss, falling for the first time in more than a month dating back to a 4-3 defeat at San Francisco on Feb. 20. The Sharks, who recently ascended to the top spot in the ITA Division II national polls, remained undefeated at 14-0 on the year with the win.

"Today was a tough match against a quality opponent," Head Coach Eric Steidlmayer said. "I hope we will learn from the lessons taught to us today and improve prior to our next match."

The Aggies had their hands full with Hawai'i Pacific, which boasted a lineup that featured three of the nation's top 15 players and one of the country's top five doubles tandems. Following the Division II scoring rules that had each of Friday's matches worth a single point, the Sharks jumped out to the early lead by taking home wins at the top two doubles spots with hard-fought 8-6 victories.

UC Davis' duo of sophomore James Wade and freshman Tommy Lam got the Aggies on the board, posting an 8-5 win over Jakub Hadrava and Jaume Martinez-Vich at the No. 3 spot.

Sophomore Alec Adamson gave his team its second point of the day, handing eighth-ranked Thibaud Berland a, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5, loss at No. 2 singles, but that would be as close as UC Davis would get the rest of the day. Hawai'i Pacific took home straight-set wins at the remaining five singles contests to round out the match and clinch the victory.

The Aggies return to the Marya Welch Tennis Center next weekend to open a three-match homestand, welcoming Northern Arizona to Northern California on Sunday (April 5) at 10 a.m.
