DAVIS, Calif. - Kristy Jorgensen and Frederique Sleiffer won their respective singles matches in Saturday's Big West Conference contest at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on Saturday, but No. 46 Long Beach State won the doubles point, and two of the last three singles matchups to defeat UC Davis, 5-2.

The Aggieswill enter the second of four consecutive home matches, Sunday morning against UC Riverside, with a 3-8 overall and 1-3 league record. Long Beach State improves to 7-1 and 4-0 respectively.

Long Beach won the doubles point, and doubled its lead by winning the first singles match that finished. However, Sleiffer chopped the 49ers' lead in half once her singles match, at No. 6, ended, to pull UC Davis within one team point.

That win extended Sleiffer's streak to six matches; Saturday's result also pushed her individual record to 7-3 in her last 10 singles contests.

Down one set in her No. 3 singles matchup against Hayley Thompson, Jorgensen rallied to win the second set, 6-4, and force a third frame. In that set, it was Jorgensen who came up clutch in her tiebreaker - one she captured by a 7-5 score.

Entering Saturday's match, Jorgensen collected previous singles victories at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 positions. She can now boast about her success at four positions since she competed at No. 3, and collected a victory, for the first time this year.

Women's tennis' current four-match homestand will continue on Sunday, March 1, when UC Riverside visits Davis for its annual league tussle. First serve will take place at 11 a.m.
