DAVIS, Calif. -- With the UC Davis men's tennis team rising in the rankings, a big part of the team's success was the recipient of Big West Conference Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday, as junior Brett Bacharach became the Aggies second honoree this season.

Bacharach earned weekly honors from the league for the first time in his career and joined sophomore teammate James Wade (Jan. 21) as award winners in 2015.

The Newcastle, California, native won both of his singles contest this past weekend, defeating San Francisco's James Tallman in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, and battling Nevada's Fernando Sunago to three sets before taking home a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, victory. Bacharach has won five straight and improved to 13-8 overall and 6-2 in dual matches this season -- five of those six victories coming at the No. 3 spot in the UC Davis lineup.

In doubles alongside teammate Bryce McKelvie, the tandem split their two matches, posting a win at No. 2 doubles against Christian Brockstedt and Alex Santiago of San Francisco, 6-3.

The Aggies improved to 9-3 overall, and a perfect 5-0 at home this season, with wins over Nevada (5-2) and Sonoma State (7-0) this past weekend, helping UC Davis jump six spots in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings to a program Division 1-best No. 64 in the nation as of Feb. 24.

Following a stretch that saw the Aggies play six matches in 10 days, UC Davis breaks until Thursday (March 5), when they head to La Jolla, California, to participate in the 126th Annual Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championships as well as a pair of neutral site duals against Rice (March 5) and Villanova (March 8).
