San Francisco slips past UC Davis, 4-3

Results

SAN FRANCISCO - UC Davis opened Saturday's road match from The Olympic Club in San Francisco by winning the doubles point, then captured another two victories throughout singles competition, but USF won four singles matchups, including the final one of the day to come-from-behind and defeat the Aggies, 4-3.

Saturday's match was the final non-conference tune-up for a UC Davis team that will return to the Marya Welch Tennis Center for its next four matches - all against Big West teams. The Aggies will open that homestand with a 3-7 overall record; San Francisco improves to 5-3 with Saturday's result.

Kamila Kecki and Frederique Sleiffer started the Aggies' day on a positive note by recording a 6-0 shutout victory during the doubles round. After they stepped off the court, Tiffany Pham and Jessie Lee recorded a 6-3 win, in convincing fashion, shortly thereafter.

Layla Sanders and Kristy Jorgensen were leading their match, 5-3, once the Aggies officially collected the doubles point.

Lee was the first Aggie to win her respective singles match, downing the Dons' Genevieve McCloskey, 6-1 and 1-0 after McCloskey retired early in the second set. With that victory, Lee became the first of two players to record an individual sweep.

Sleiffer won her fifth consecutive singles match by defeating Ines Teixeira in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, to become the other Aggie to win both matches played on the day.

At that point of the match, Sleiffer's victory tied the overall team score at 3-3.

Unfortunately for UC Davis, San Francisco captured the final point that was up for grabs to steal a victory away from the Aggies.

Starting with its league home opener on Feb. 28 vs. Long Beach State, the Aggies will remain on campus for the next three weeks.
