Aggies' Graduation Success Rate again leads Big West

Nov. 9, 2015

DAVIS, Calif. - Seven Aggie teams posted perfect NCAA Graduation Success Rates, nine â€" including football and women's basketball â€" had the highest rates in their respective conferences, and UC Davis showcased an overall rate of 88 percent to lead the Big West in GSR for the fourth straight year, according to figures recently released by the NCAA.

In all, 15 UC Davis programs had GSRs that were either highest or second-highest in their respective conferences and 17 had GSRs of at least 80 percent. The Aggies have posted the highest GSR in the Big West in seven of the eight years it's been a Div. I member and have never been lower than 86 percent. The most recent GSR measures students who entered college between 2005-08 and graduated within six years.

"Our student-athletes strive for excellence in everything they do and we're proud they are graduating at an exceptional and noteworthy rate," said Teresa Gould, interim director of athletics. "It's a tribute to their hard work and the dedication of numerous coaches and staff that support them."

Aggie teams that posted perfect rates included field hockey, women's golf, gymnastics, women's tennis, women's volleyball and women's water polo while the men's water polo team was also at 100 percent. Women's water polo led the Big West while each of the remaining teams that were perfect shared top honors with at least one other school.

Football (83 percent) and women's basketball (93 percent) joined those teams with conference-best GSRs while men's basketball (89 percent), men's tennis (89 percent), men's cross country/track and field (86 percent), men's soccer (80 percent) and women's cross country/track (86 percent) were each second. Women's soccer (96 percent) tied for second-best in the Big West and baseball (79 percent) was third.

For football, it was the second straight year they have led the Big Sky in GSR and joins its distinction of leading the league in NCAA Academic Progress Rate â€" which measures student-athlete and retention â€" the past three years.
