Box Score Nov. 7, 2015

Final Stats

OGDEN, Utah - Brady Stuart kicked a career-best 52-yard field goal, the 50th of his career, but it was just one of a few highlights for UC Davis which fell to Weber State, 23-3, in a Big Sky Conference football game at Stewart Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops UC Davis' overall record to 1-8 and its Big Sky mark to 1-5. The Wildcats, which improved to 5-5 and 4-3, picked up two rushing touchdowns by Treshawn Garrett and four field goals by Josh Kealamakia. Freshman cornerback Vincent White had a game-high 11 tackles for UC Davis while sophomore safety Darryl Graham finished with 10.

UC Davis, which finished with just 174 total yards, trailed 20-3 at halftime but held the Wildcats to 165 yards and just a single field goal over the final 30 minutes.

Stuart, who became the Aggies' all-time field goal leader against Southern Utah two weeks ago while also picking up a career-best 48-yarder, eclipsed that with 4:39 left in the first quarter with a 52-yard kick that tied the game, 3-3. It's tied with four others for the second-longest field goal in school history and just two yards off the school record of 54 yards by Sean Kelley in 2011. It proved to be the only scoring for UC Davis which was stymied throughout the game by the Wildcats.

Weber State got on the scoreboard first after Kealamakia's 37-yard punt on the game's first possession hit the leg of an Aggie player and was recovered at UC Davis' 24-yard line. UC Davis' defense held but Kealamakia was good from 35 yards. Stuart's field goal tied the game but Kealamakia was good from 25 yards to put Weber State in the lead for good, 6-3, early in the second quarter.

Garrett, who rushed for 152 yards, then struck twice within a two-minute span to break the game open. Quarterback Jadrian Clark hit Cam Livingston for a 30-yard gain to set up Garret's 29-yard rush two plays later to the UC Davis 16. He then ran in from four yards to make it 13-3 with 10:04 to go in the half. The Wildcats forced a 3-and-out on its next drive and Garrett used a pair of 21-yard runs on ensuing drive with the latter one putting him in the endzone for a 20-3 Weber State lead.

UC Davis punted four times in the first half and had two turnovers while being outgained 314-16 in total yards. Garrett rushed for 100 yards over the first 30 minutes to help lead the Wildcats. The Aggies picked up a 47-yard pass completion from redshirt freshman C.J. Spencer - who made his first career starter while replacing injured junior Ben Scott - in the third quarter while freshman running back Joshua Kelley had an 18-yard run in the fourth quarter. Spencer also hit Chris Martin for a 46-yard pickup on the Aggies' final drive.

Spencer finished 15 for 28 for 146 yards while Sheppard (47 yds) and Martin (46) were the two leading receivers. Kelley rushed for 32 yards on 16 carries with UC Davis being held to just 28 rushing yards on 22 attempts.

Clark threw for 158 yards for Weber State which was led defensively by Alema Key's eight tackles.

The Aggies were held to just 1 for 13 on third down and got inside the 20-yard line just once.

UC Davis' defense provided a highlight by holding Weber State on three downs near the goal line late in the fourth quarter and then stopped a fake field goal on fourth down.

The Aggies will play two rivalry games to finish the 2015 season beginning with Cal Poly in the Battle for the Golden Horseshoe next Saturday at 2 p.m. at Aggie Stadium.
