UCSB Classic - Day One Results

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Four UC Davis singles players are into the quarterfinals of their respective flights, while a trio of doubles teams advanced to the semifinals in their draws, closing out action on day one of the fourth-annual UCSB Classic on Friday afternoon in Santa Barbara, California.

Juniors Alec Adamson and James Wade posted first-round victories in Flight "A" to begin the day, the former outlasting Nicolas Moreno of the host Gauchos in three sets, 7-6, 2-6, 7-6, while the latter posted a straight-set, 6-4, 6-4, win over Fresno State's Euan McIntosh.

Sophomore Tommy Lam and senior Adam Levie joined them with straight-set wins in Flight "C", taking out a pair of opponents from Stanford and Fresno State, respectively. Lam defeated the Cardinal's Trey Strobel, 6-1, 7-5, while Levie handed the Bulldogs' Alexandros Vakouftsis a, 6-2, 6-0, defeat to open the tournament.

In doubles, Adamson and Lam, along with junior Eli Whittle and sophomore Everett Maltby, each won their opening matches by identical scores of 8-4 to advance the semifinals in Flight "B" and set-up a possible meeting in the flight's championship match. Adamson and Lam defeated California's Ryan Shen and Wyatt Houghton, while Whittle and Maltby defeated UCSB's Olivier Sec and Miles Seemann.

In Flight "C", Wade and Jesse Ross received a first-round bye and will take on the Oregon duo of Brent Chin and Alberto Reyes in the semifinals on Saturday. Play begins with doubles at 9 a.m., with a pair of singles contests for all players to follow throughout the day.
