BERKELEY, Calif. - Jessie Lee emerged victorious in an all-Aggie singles semifinal match in the Gold Flight and defeated a seeded opponent to claim a singles consolation champions during the third, and final day of action at the Cal Fall Invitational.
In her first match of the day from the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts, Lee and teammate Lani-Rae Green squared off against one another. After Green took the first set by a 6-4 score, Lee evened things up at one set apiece after pulling away to win the second set, 7-5.
Since Green withdrew after set No. 2, Lee advanced to the final round of the White Flight's singles bracket, where she faced Nevada's Blaga Delic.
Delic may have been seeded No. 3 in the flight entering that championship contest, but it was Lee who played like a ranked player and easily dispatched her opponent from Nevada, in straight sets, by matching 6-2 scores.
Kamila Kecki and Isabella Von Ebbe comprised half the participants in the White Flight's main draw singles semifinals -- matches that both ended in an unfortunate manner, in straight sets.
Kecki fell, 6-3, 6-3, to Sofia Wicker and her teammate dropped the other semifinal match against San José State's Miyo Kobayashi, 6-2 and 6-3.
The second of three events on UC Davis' fall schedule will start on Friday, Oct. 9, when women's tennis heads to Moraga to compete in the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational.
