Oct. 24, 2015 SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Freshman utility Ido Goldschmidt scored two goals in victories against No. 11 Brown and No. 14 Bucknell in Saturday's portion of The Rodeo men's collegiate water polo tournament at Sullivan Aquatic Center. The Aggies opened the day with a 9-6 victory over the Bears, then dispatched the Bison by a 12-4 final in their afternoon game.
UC Davis improves to 13-6 for the year.
Goldschmidt and sophomore utility Cory Laidig each netted two goals in the morning win over Brown. Redshirt freshman Brock Gordon tallied a hat trick in the victory against Bucknell, while senior Austin Beckwith and junior Jacob Ley added two apiece.
Goldschmidt, Laidig, senior Sean Grab and junior Lyle Kipp each scored in a run of four unanswered that helped UC Davis flip a 3-2 deficit midway through the second period into a 6-3 edge by the five-minute mark of the third. The Bears scored three of the next four to pull within a 7-6 margin with 5:20 remaining in the fourth, but Goldschmidt and senior Wes Lincoln each tacked on goals in the final minutes to help seal the win.
The Aggies led for the entirety of their nightcap win. They converted six straight power plays to establish a 6-0 edge by the 5:13 mark of the second before surrendering a Jeff Hagen goal to allow the Bison on the board. UC Davis then added three straight in a six-minute span after its 6-1 halftime edge to take a 9-1 advantage.
Gordon had all three of his goals in the second half. He scored his first after BU freshman Marko Djordjevic was majored from the contest, added a second with just 10 ticks remaining in the third period, then competed his hat trick with 2:30 left in the fourth.
The Aggies conclude play at The Rodeo with games against No. 17 St. Francis (8 a.m.) and No. 19 Harvard (1:20 p.m.) on Sunday.
