SEATTLE -- The UC Davis men's tennis team enjoyed a successful start in Seattle on Thursday, winning five of its first six singles matches and advancing a doubles team to close out day one of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals hosted by the University of Washington.

All five UC Davis wins were in straight sets, including a pair of Aggies who survived first-set tiebreakers to advance in the main draw. Play continues on Friday morning at 9 a.m. with singles, while doubles kicks-off later in the day at 2 p.m.

Senior Brett Bacharach and junior Jesse Ross eliminated a pair of Pacific-12 Conference opponents in their opening-round matches, defeating Oregon's Brent Chin (7-6, 6-3) and Stanford's Trey Strobel (7-6, 6-4), respectively.

Junior Bryce McKelvie opened his run with a win over Gonzaga's Connor Arend, 6-1, 6-3, junior James Wade took down Portland's Kent Andreasen, 6-2, 6-4, and senior Adam Levie defeated Seattle's John Stormans, 6-1, 6-3.

The only loss was suffered by sophomore Everett Maltby, who fell to Fresno State's Nikolas Papic, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. Junior Alec Adamson will be well-rested, earning a first-round bye in singles play and scheduled to meet Washington's Sebastian Hawken on Friday morning in the round of 64.

In doubles, Bacharach and Levie made it 2-for-2 on the day, teaming up to cruise past Eastern Washington's Eduardo Bringold and Luke Ness, 8-3. The team of Maltby and McKelvie earned a first-round bye and will meet Washington's Jake Douglas and Piers Foley in the round of 32 on Friday at 5 p.m., while the tandem of Adamson and Wade will take on Portland State's Yousef Abdo and Nacor Ibanez in their first-round match-up on Friday at 2 p.m.
