DAVIS, Calif. - Tied at three apiece in Saturday's non-conference match at the Marya Welch Tennis Center, Pacific pulled away to win the final singles set of the afternoon, a three-set contest, to defeat UC Davis, 4-3, in its inaugural home match of the year.

UC Davis falls to 2-4 with Saturday's result, Pacific open its season with a 1-0 record.

Thanks to Layla Sanders and Kristy Jorgensen, who won the final doubles match of the day, 7-5, UC Davis took an early 1-0 lead heading into the singles round.

Jorgensen completed an individual sweep with her three-set win over Cristina Saenz de Buruaga, winning the final set, 6-1. The Aggie newcomer looked anything but as she kept her composure after falling 3-6 in the first frame and rebounded in the following set to post a 6-1 score.

Frederique Sleiffer made quick work of her opponent, Georgia Boncheva, by dispatching her in straight sets with matching 6-1 set scores.

Pacific was able to pick up three wins in the singles round, creating a winner-takes-all situation in the final singles match of the afternoon. Falling 1-6 to seasoned veteran Iveta Masarova, Lani-Rae Green, the Big West Women's Tennis Player of the Week, forced a third set after winning the second set, 6-4. Green, a freshman, pushed Masarova, an all-Big West (when the Tigers were a league foe) and all-West Coast Conference (Pacific's current conference) to the brink before dropping the final set by a service break (7-5).

UC Davis did take both exhibition singles matches when Kamila Kecki defeated Antonella Santeusanio in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6, while teammate Samantha Martino also swept her matchup against Daria Labintseva by posting set scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

UC Davis will return to action on Feb. 7 when women's tennis opens another five-game road trip at Santa Clara. When that block of road action concludes, the Aggies will compete in their final 11 matches of the season at home.
