SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The UC Davis men's tennis team clinched the doubles points, then got straight-set wins at the Nos. 4-6 spots in the singles lineup on Saturday afternoon, lifting the visiting Aggies to a 4-3 upset of No. 52-ranked Santa Clara at the Degheri Tennis Center.

The win was the third straight for UC Davis, which improved to 5-2 overall on the year. The Broncos fell to 3-2 with the defeat.

Sophomore Jesse Ross clinched the match for the Aggies with his 6-3, 7-5, win over Sebastien Mathieu at the No. 6 spot. After winning two of the three doubles contests (the third going unfinished), freshman Everett Maltby and junior Brett Bacharach posted straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 4, respectively, for a 3-0 lead.

The Broncos then claimed a win at No. 2 singles to break up the shutout, just before Ross' winner at No. 6.

The Aggies return home on Feb. 8 for a double header against Sonoma State and Nevada, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
