SACRAMENTO, Calif. - UC Davis started Friday's Causeway Cup matchup from the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club in Sacramento by winning the doubles point, but dropped all six matches in the singles round to fall 6-1 to the host Hornets.

UC Davis, which clinched the Cup the last two seasons by downing their rivals, will enter Saturday's home opener with a 2-3 overall record. Sacramento State will embark on its upcoming road trip with a 1-2 mark.

Layla Sanders and Kristy Jorgensen kicked things off on a positive note with their 6-1 doubles victory over the Hornets' top doubles du. After the Hornets evened things up by taking the next match, Kamila Kecki and Frederique Sleiffer came up clutch in a lengthy tiebreaker to help the Aggies earn the doubles team point.

Kecki and Sleiffer defeated Daria Savchenko and Tori Trylovich, 7-6, by winning the tiebreaker by a 10-8 margin.

Once singles play commenced, the Aggies' fortunes changed dramatically as the Hornets were able to secure all six available points to prevent UC Davis from winning its third consecutive Causeway duel.

Jorgensen was able to extend her singles match to a decisive third set after earning a split of the first two frames with her 6-1, second-set triumph. Savchenko, her opponent at No. 5, secured a break in serve and held on to that cushion to win the final frame by a 6-4 score.

After spending the first three weeks on the road, UC Davis will finally have an opportunity to compete in a home dual when Pacific visits Davis on Saturday. The Aggies have won their last four head-to-head meetings against the Tigers and will look to extend this streak once play begins from the Marya Welch Tennis Center at 12 p.m.
