BERKELEY, Calif. -- Fresh off its first victory of the season, the UC Davis men's tennis lineup faced off against familiar foes on Monday morning, but were unable to come away with an upset, falling to host and No. 15-ranked California, 4-0, at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley, Calif.

Facing its second nationally ranked opponent in its first three matches of the spring season, the Aggies fell to 1-2 on the year, opening a four-match road swing on Monday. The Golden Bears, who were scheduled to face Pacific immediately following the match against UC Davis, won their season opener.

Regional rivals whom had battled one another throughout the fall campaign, the Aggies were 5-7 in singles play against their counterparts from California, but watched as the Golden Bears swept through doubles play -- including a pair of matches against top-50 doubles duos from Berkeley -- before taking three of the six singles contests in straight sets to clinch the match.

The remaining three matches, including battles against nationally ranked foes at the top two spots in the lineup, went unfinished as California did not lose more than three games in any set in its victories.

A pair of matches await UC Davis in Southern California this weekend as the Aggies take on Loyola Marymount on Friday (Jan. 23) at 2 p.m., before facing Grand Canyon on a neutral court on Saturday (Jan. 24) at 10 a.m.
