Box Score

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Sophomore Dashiell MacNamara's first goal of the year with 17 seconds remaining in double overtime snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted visiting UC Davis to a 2-1 victory over the host Roadrunners on Saturday night in front of 1,164 fans at the CSUB Main Soccer Field.

The Aggies remained unbeaten in 2014, moving to 2-0-3 overall on the year, while handing Bakersfield (4-1) its first loss of the season. Saturday night marked UC Davis' first win in Bakersfield after going winless in its previous eight trips (0-6-2) dating back to 1990, and snapped a four-match winless streak (0-2-2) in the series dating back to a 1-0 win in 2008.

Playing overtime for the fourth time in five matches overall, the Aggies converted their only shot attempt in the second extra period as MacNamara gained control of a Roadrunner turnover and slotted home the "golden goal" game-winner into the upper right-hand corner from 20 yards out to end it.

MacNamara's late-match heroics came after teammate Lucas Mohageg added a late score in regulation to tie the match, forcing overtime. The Los Altos, California, native capitalized on sloppy play by Bakersfield to net his first career goal and point in the 83rd minute, answering a strike by Bakersfield's Simon Doherty, who scored his third of the year in the 50th minute for a 1-0 lead.

Junior goalkeeper Kris Schultz shined between the pipes for the Aggies, finishing with a career-high six saves -- three of those coming in the second half and another in the first overtime.

UC Davis finished with a 14-13 lead in the shot column, putting five of its shots on frame compared to seven for the Roadrunners, and reached double figures in that category for the second time this season, falling just one shot shy of matching its season high of 15 set against Canisius on Aug. 31.

The physical contest also saw the two teams combine for 42 fouls (with Bakersfield leading that category by a 25-17 count) and eight yellow cards on the night.

Following their only match of the week, the Aggies return to the field with a pair of non-conference contests next weekend, hosting Air Force on Friday (Sept. 19) at 5 p.m., before welcoming Grand Canyon University on Sunday (Sept. 21) at 1 p.m.

QUICK VOLLEYS: UC Davis snapped a four-match winless streak (0-1-3) in overtime with Saturday's win, posting a victory for the first time since a 2-1 overtime triumph at UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 28, 2012... Entering Saturday night, the Aggies had scored just twice in Bakersfield during their previous eight trips south... Mohageg and MacNamara became the fourth and fifth different goal scorers for UC Davis this season (Ian Palmer, Ryan Gross, Matt Sheldon 2).
