DAVIS, Calif. - Aggie Soccer Field is the site of women's soccer's next two matches when UC Davis opens its home schedule Friday afternoon against San Jose State. The weekend homestand will end two days later with a Sunday matinée against Quinnipiac.

This weekend's matches are the first two of five non-conference home matches.

@UCDAVISWSOC JOINS THE TWITTER-SPHERE
UC Davis women's soccer fans can receive the latest information about their favorite soccer team, on Twitter, @UCDavisWSOC. In addition to news, highlights, scores and information, @UCDavisWSOC will "pull back the curtain" and provide a behind-the-scene look at UC Davis women's soccer program year-round.

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS
UC Davis women's soccer's Instagram account, which joins the team's Facebook and Twitter feeds, will help bring alumni, parents, supporters, students and fans of the Aggies become part of the program through an array of images.

Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter.

NEW SEASON, SAME RESULT
For the fifth straight year, women's soccer started its season in the best possible way -- with a victory. Since joining the conference in 2007, UC Davis has won six of its eight season openers. The 2008 and '09 seasons marked the only times in the program's league history where the Aggies did not capture their intended result; UC Davis suffered as season-opening loss and draw respectively.

EIGHT IS ENOUGH (FOR NOW)
With its 1-0 victory on Aug. 22, at Sacramento State, UC Davis extended its unbeaten streak against the Hornets to eight matches. Of those eight rivalry contests, five ended with an Aggie victory.

YOU WILL GET NOTHING AND LIKE IT
In addition to enhancing its unbeaten streak, the 2014 season opener also extended another dubious one for Sacramento State. This season's matchup marked the fifth straight season where the Hornets were unable to find the back of the net against UC Davis.

WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE
UC Davis women's soccer has enjoyed a strong start to each season since joining the Big West Conference. The Aggies hold a 3-1-3 record in home openers since its inaugural season as a member school in 2007.

With a positive result, women's soccer fans will leave Aggie Soccer Field with a win for the third straight season.

SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE
After a one-year hiatus, San Jose State and UC Davis will resume their head-to-head series when the Spartans visit Aggie Soccer Field. A victory over SJSU will extend the Aggies win streak in home openers, and against San Jose State, to three matches. Entering Friday's contest, UC Davis leads the all-time series with its 4-2-2 record.

In its season opener last Friday, San Jose State recorded six shots but lost 1-0 to Lamar. After its road contest in Davis, the Spartans will return home for its following two matches before opening a two-week, four-match road swing.

San Jose State's top three scorers from 2013 return for first-year head coach Lauren Hanson: senior forward Kareli Rodriguez, junior forward Lupita Estrada and sophomore forward Alexis Venegas. All three players competed in over 1,200 minutes last season and were responsible for eight of the team's 12 goals, 20 of 29 points and nearly half of all shots (75 of 156; 48 pct.) and shots on goal (35 of 74; 47 pct.) recorded by the Spartans last season -- its first as a member of the Mountain West Conference.

SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
Nineteen student-athletes from last year's roster return this season for second-year Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference member Quinnipiac. In its inaugural season in the MAAC, the Bobcat posted a 3-8-5 overall and 3-3-4 league record.

Among the 21 letterwinners that return for head coach Dave Clarke this season are senior midfielder Jess Lavoie, sophomore defender Joanna Proctor and sophomore forward Jessica Fontaine -- Quinnipiac's representatives on the 2013 All-MAAC teams.

As is the case with San Jose State, the Bobcats started their season with only one match scheduled throughout the inaugural week of the 2014 campaign. Even though they dominated play for a majority of the match, Maine punched in the game-winner with 7:38 remaining in regulation to down the Bobcats, 1-0.

Before arriving to Davis, Quinnipiac will open its Northern California road trip at Pacific Friday night.

Sunday's matchup marks the first-ever meeting between Quinnipiac and UC Davis.

SHARING MEANS CARING
Entering her senior year, senior forward Lexi Poppoff is within striking distance of adding her name to the Aggies' book of records. If Poppoff is able to collect four assists before the end of the season, the Tracy, California, native will join Kim Haskell (1993-96) and Laura Whitsitt (1994-95) in fifth place with 14 career assists.

NO GOALS FOR YOU!
Senior Taylor Jern also has an opportunity to join the Aggies' all-time goalkeeping greats with another solid effort between the pipes this year. With 169 career saves entering 2014, and another nine recorded in matches played this season, Jern needs 28 more saves to bump Kelly Parker (1997-00) to fourth place all-time in this statistical category.

Responsible for seven UC Davis shutouts throughout her college career, the 'keeper from Corona needs six more clean sheets to join Christine Ogden in fourth place all-time with 13 shutouts.

AGGIES PASS FINAL PRESEASON TEST
Underclassmen ruled the day for UC Davis when sophomores Rachel Smith, Zuzu Romano and freshman Kayla Collins found the back of the net in a 4-1 preseason scrimmage against Sonoma State.

Collins ended that afternoon with a team-high two goals, junior Mari Pastor recorded a team-high two assists.

PRESEASON PROGNOSTICATIONS
UC Davis was predicted to finish tied for seventh place with CSUN when the Big West Conference released its annual Preseason Coaches Poll. Both teams each garnered 27 points in the league's annual listing.

By virtue of receiving six of the nine possible first-place votes, defending regular season champion Cal Poly captured the top spot with 77 points. UC Irvine received two first-place votes to finish second with 64 points with Long Beach State slotted third with 59 points. Trailing the 49ers by a solitary point in fourth was Cal State Fullerton, a team that picked up the final available first-place vote.

Hawai'i (37 points), UC Santa Barbara (30) were listed in fifth and sixth place respectively, UC Riverside (26) rounded out the poll in ninth place.
