Wolf Pack Claims Abbreviated Match With Aggies

March 28, 2014

RENO, Nev. -- With weather bearing down on Northern California, host Nevada came away with an abbreviated 4-0 victory over visiting UC Davis on Friday afternoon at the Caughlin Athletic Club in Reno, Nev.

The win snapped the Aggies' six-match winning streak, dropping them to 11-7 overall, as UC Davis felt the sting of defeat for the first time since a 5-2 loss at Fresno State on March 8. The Wolf Pack, which followed up its win over the Aggies with a 4-0 shutout of UC Irvine later in the day, improved to 13-3 overall after the doubleheader sweep and remained unbeaten at home at 7-0.

UC Davis and UCI are scheduled to meet in a Big West Conference contest on Sunday (March 30) at 1 p.m. at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.

The weather concerns forced the two teams to alter the dual match format, with the two teams playing singles first, instead of the usual best-of-three doubles contests. That was all Nevada needed on Friday, posting wins at the No. 1, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 positions to claim the needed four points.

Three of the Wolf Pack's four wins came in straight sets with senior Adam Luba battling Fernando Sunago through three sets before falling, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
