UC Davis Drops 5-2 Decision at No. 48 SDSU

SAN DIEGO - Facing No. 48 San Diego State, its second ranked opponent in as many weeks, UC Davis saw Tiffany Pham and Kamila Kecki win their respective singles matches Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego, but early singles wins and the doubles point helped the Aztecs defeat the Aggies 5-2.

As was the case last weekend, UC Davis will return to action in less than 24 hours as the team will enter Sunday's matchup, at UC San Diego, with a 1-2 dual record. In the midst of a home-heavy schedule, SDSU improves to 3-1 with today's result-a record entirely built against Big West teams.

Competing at No. 6, Kecki captured her first singles dual victory at UC Davis by downing SDSU's Olivia Larsson in three sets. After gutting out a first set victory by blanking Larsson in a tiebreak, Kecki bounced back after dropping the second set to take the third frame, and post the Aggies' first team point, with her 7-6 (7-0), 3-6, 10-7 win.

Coming off a week where her singles triumph was the difference in UC Davis' 4-3 victory at Pacific-the team's first dual win of the year-Pham continued her stellar singles play at San Diego State on Saturday. Responsible for UC Davis' other point, Pham took the last two sets to record a come-from-behind win over Aztec No. 5 Hailey Johnson by a 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-4 result.

By taking all three doubles matchups by 6-4 scores, and earning three singles victories, San Diego State protected its home courts against a Big West team once again.

SDSU opened its season with victories at the Aztec Tennis Center over UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton by identical 6-1 scores; including its next math versus UC Irvine, the Aztecs' first five duals of the season are against Big West schools-all but one will take place in San Diego.

A Sunday morning matchup, at UC San Diego, stands between UC Davis and its first home events of the season. Action from the Northview Tennis courts, against the host Tritons, will begin at 11 a.m.
