AUSTIN, Texas -- UC Davis sophomore Hilvy Cheung met a pair of NCAA "B" standards in the 100 fly, and numerous Aggies set season bests after day one of the Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on Thursday evening in Austin.

Through the first six events of the Invitational, UC Davis sits 10th out of 16 teams with 24 points, scoring in four events.

Cheung, who also earned a second swim in the 200 IM, finishing 26th with a time of 2:02.92, opened with a time of 53.55 in the prelims of the 100 fly to finish ninth, besting her fastest time of the season by more than two seconds, and standing just three-tenths off her school record of 53.19. She followed her morning time with a swim of 53.95 in the "B" final to place fifth in that heat, still touching under the NCAA "B" standard of 54.49, and scoring four points.

The "A" team of Courtney Schultz, Kirsten Brand, Hilary Hunt, and Samantha Shellem, gave the Aggies their first points of the day, finishing 12th in the 200 free relay in a season-best time of 1:33.71, as UC Davis bested its fastest time in the event this season (1:36.57 against BYU on Nov. 15) by nearly three seconds.

Junior Marissa Brown followed with a 15th place finish overall (seventh in the "B" final), with a time of 4:54.27 to score two points for the Aggies, after touching in a season-best time of 4:49.26 in the prelims to finish 14th during the morning session.

UC Davis' "A" squad of Hunt, Hailey Ferko, Cheung, and Shellem, then capped off the first day of competition with eight points in the 400 medley relay, touching in a time of 3:42.15 -- 12 seconds better than the previous season best of 3:54.89 set by Hunt, Ferko, Megan Leung, and Robin Lampron on Nov. 1 at Loyola Marymount.

Ferko added career-best times in a pair of individual events, swimming a 2:07.26 in the 200 IM while touching in a time of 24.41 in the 50 free. Shellem led the way for the Aggies in the 50 free, finishing tied for 45th along with teammate Hilary Hunt in a season-best time of 23.86

Day two of the Invitational begins on Friday morning at 8 a.m. PT, with prelims in the 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast stroke, 100 back, and 200 medley relay. Finals in those events, along with the 800 free relay, begin later in the day at 4 p.m. PT.
