DAVIS, Calif. -- Following a successful run at its own Aggie Fall Invitational, the UC Davis men's tennis team hits the road for its second tournaments of the fall season, splitting the squad between two events this weekend.

The three-day event begins on Friday (Oct. 10) and runs through the weekend, closing with the championship matches on Sunday (Oct. 12). Participating schools include the host Gauchos, UCLA, California, Loyola Marymount, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, and Cal Poly.

It's a return to an event that saw the Aggies reach five championship matches last season, claiming three titles. Brett Bacharach won the Flight B main draw singles title, Alec Adamson and Adam Levie claimed the Flight A doubles crown, and Bryce McKelvie and Adam Luba emerged as consolation doubles champions.

However, not all of the Aggies will be making the trip to the Central Coast, as a pair of players will be heading to San Francisco to compete in the annual Battle in the Bay Classic hosted by the University of San Francisco beginning Friday at the California Tennis Club.

Adamson will compete in singles, while teaming up with Levie in the doubles competition. Levie opens singles play against Stanford's Yale Goldberg at 11 a.m., followed by Adamson against USC's Rob Bellamy an hour later. The duo opens doubles play at 9 a.m. against the UCLA tandem of Michael Guzman and Ryoto Tachi.

This year's edition features players from some of the nation's top Division I programs, including UCLA, Duke, USC, Stanford, Pepperdine, and California, among others. The main draw features 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams battling it out for the title, with the doubles competition beginning at 9 a.m., followed by singles at 10:15 a.m.

UC Davis rolls into this weekend's competitions after reaching a quartet of championship matches at the Aggie Fall Invitational at the Marya Welch Tennis Center and claiming a pair of championships.

McKelvie, the No. 4-seed in Flight B, was one of the Aggies' two winners, storming through the bracket to defeat Nevada's Robert Margitfalvi in a three-set tie-breaker, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (7), after posting a semifinal win over his teammate, Everett Maltby in another three-set marathon.

Sophomore James Wade was the second UC Davis champion, upending Pacific's Miguel Diaz in the consolation finals of Flight A following a first-set loss, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (11). In another Aggie head-to-head match-up, Wade had defeated teammate Bacharach, 6-2, 7-6, in the semifinals.

In the Flight B consolation bracket, Levie reached the finals before falling to top-seeded Wyatt Houghton of California, while Bacharach and Wade teamed up to reach the finals of the Flight A consolation bracket before falling to the top-seeded Golden Bear tandem of Mads Engsted and JT Nishimura.
