STANFORD, Calif. -- The run to a championship at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals came to a heartbreaking end, as the UC Davis team of sophomore Alec Adamson and junior Adam Levie was defeated in a third-set tiebreaker in the semifinals on Monday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Reaching the semifinal round for the second consecutive season, the fifth-seeded Adamson and Levie battled the San Francisco tandem of Bernardo Saraiva and Nils Skajaa to the bitter end. Saraiva and Skajaa took home the second set, 6-4, forcing a decisive third set. The finale set went back and forth with UC Davis eventually holding match point at 9-8, but could not put it away as the San Francisco team rallied for an 11-9 win.
The Aggies take a short break before closing out the fall portion of their season, heading to Moraga, California, to participate in the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational beginning on Oct. 31 and running through the weekend. UC Davis then opens its spring schedule on Jan. 17, 2015, traveling back to Stanford to take on the Cardinal.
