Oct. 16, 2014 DAVIS, Calif. -- While blue and gold are usually the dominant colors at the Schaal Aquatics Center, this Friday's season-opening dual meet with San Jose State will have a somewhat pink hue to it as the Aggies will "Swim Pink," along with the divers who will make a splash (or a lack thereof) when they "Dive Pink," in support of breast cancer awareness during their clash with the Spartans at 3 p.m.
Donations will be accepted and fans can sign up for a post-meet, 30-minute swim "clinic" for a $50 contribution, with all proceeds going to support the Triumph Foundation, a 12-week fitness program for adult cancer survivors, who have recently completed treatment. Interest parties need to bring a suit, towel, cap, and goggles.
Those who wish to participate are asked to email Head Coach Barbara Jahn at bajahn@ucdavis.edu in advance so the staff can get a head count, but entries and donations will be accepted at the door.
Launched in 2005, Triumph Fitness was founded by Sacramento architect and cyclist Pam Whitehead, a uterine cancer survivor who started with a $5,000 award from the Livestrong Foundation in recognition of her cancer advocacy work.
The program is specifically designed to help participants build muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve the capacity to perform activities of daily living -- from work to play. An additional goal of the program is to empower participants so they can continue to triumph on their own. There is no cost to participants.
More information on the Triumph Foundation is available on their website at triumphfound.org.
