DAVIS, Calif. – With tremendous solo performances from freshman Katherine Lim and a great overall group effort, the swimming and diving team placed third overall at the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunner Invite.
Â
Lim's back-to-back victories are the biggest triumph the Aggies are leaving Bakersfield with, sweeping both the 1 and 3-meter diving events in her debut to college play.
Â
"This was a great first meet," diving coach Phil Tonne praises. "Starting her diving career by winning both boards helped lead us to a strong finish. Her consistency paid off, and it can be credited to her extensive background in the sport."
Â
Yesterday, Lim earned a 267.65 in the 3-meter discipline with an impressive 27.45 point gap between her and the second place finish, fellow Aggie Priscilla Nguyen. Today, she earned a 257.55 to top off her victory lap.
Â
On the swimming front, the Aggies placed within the top five for half of the 10 events they competed in today.
Â
"The Bakersfield meets are tough, as it's a physical and a mental test" said head coach Matt Macedo. "The team swims a lot of races over two days and it gives us a good forecast into what's on track and what we need to focus on."
Â
He credits the first years especially for having their first collegiate races this past weekend.
Â
As for events, consistent Aggie swimmers went to work to put themselves on the leaderboards with some incredible swims. Seniors Katie McLain and Christy Douglas, along with sophomores Naomi Boegholm and Sophi Mackay placed second in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
Â
McLain also had a stellar solo event, placing second in the 50 yard freestyle with a lightning 23.99 in the race.
Â
Another testament to toughness, senior Sam Rhodes had a fourth place swim in the 500 freestyle with a 5:04.89.
Â

UP NEXT: Looking ahead, the Aggies will host their first home meet of the season against Reno on October 19th at 12:00 PM.
