RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Sophomore Lexi Poppoff put the UC Davis women's soccer team on the scoreboard in just the 12th minute, igniting a scoring outburst for the Aggies who blanked Lamar 4-0 at the UC Riverside Tournament on Friday afternoon.

UC Davis improved to 5-3-1 with the victory while scoring a season-high total in goals. Haley Hughes, Taylor Duffner and Sienna Drizin also tallied scores while seven different players picked up assists.

The Aggies' offense was busy on Friday, taking 31 shots including an incredible 22 on goal. Lamar goalkeeper Bailey Fontenot tallied an impressive 18 saves.

"It was a complete team effort today in hot conditions," said Aggie coach Maryclaire Robinson. "We spent some time this week fine-tuning our attacking-third opportunities. We had great transfer in the game today from a number of players. We played with focus and intensity, particularly in the second half.

"I'm proud of the effort from the entire squad," she added.

The Aggies took 16 shots in the first half and 15 in the second, limiting the Cardinals to just 13 shots overall, including only five on goal which were all saved by Taylor Jern.

Popoff helped UC Davis take an early lead, converting a pass from Lauren Paul through the box from five yards out in just the 12 minute. The Aggies doubled the lead in the 39th minute when Hughes took a pass from Erika Emmanuel and found the back of the net from five yards. Hannah Hicks was also credited with an assist.

Just under seven minutes into the second half, UC Davis picked up another score when Julia Shockley passed to Stephanie Bell who found Duffner for a one-on-one opportunity against Fontenot, who she beat on the left side of the goal. Drizin, a freshman, then scored in the 89th minute off assists from Allison Kelly and Ashley Edwards.

UC Davis ended a streak of two games without a goal while shutting out an opponent for the third time this season. The Aggies will stay in Riversid
