Sept. 25, 2011

Final Stats

RENO, Nev. - Allison Kelly scored just over two minutes into the game on Sunday, the Aggies' quickest goal of the year, and keeper Maria Magana made five saves as UC Davis beat host Nevada 1-0 in a nonconference women's soccer match at Mackay Stadium.

The Aggies ended a brief two-game losing streak, have now won five of their past seven games and are 6-3 overall heading into the start of Big West Conference action at home on Friday. Nevada, coming off a comeback win over Sacramento State on Friday, is 2-9.

Lisa Kemp scored two minutes and 38 seconds into the game during UC Davis' 2-0 win over visiting Creighton on Sept. 11 but Kelly eclipsed that on Sunday, finding the back of the net just 2:24 into the match. She hit it from just outside the 18-yard box, netting her third goal of the season which ties Kemp for the team lead. Ashley Edwards picked up her first assist of the year and now has seven points.

Magana made three saves the remainder of the half to help keep UC Davis in the lead, stopping Chrisalyn Fonte at the 10-minute mark, Ellie Stott in the 25th minute and Danielle green in the 38th. The Aggies had three more shots on goal before halftime including one by Hannah Hicks in the 44th minute.

Magana made two more saves in the first 20 minutes of the second half but the Wolf Pack weren't able to get a shot on goal the rest of the game as UC Davis recorded its fifth shutout of the season.

"I'm proud of how we battled today," said head coach Maryclaire Robinson. "It was a busy week with school starting. (I also thought) we handled the physicality of the game well."

Kemp, Kelly and Annacy Wilson each had two shots on goal for UC Davis which had seven overall. The Aggies took 13 shots during the game while Nevada had seven, five of them on goal. Jenna Riddle and Dana Moreno split time in goal for the Wolf Pack, each of them collecting three saves.

UC Davis will return home for the start of the Big West season, hosting preseason favorite UC Irvine on Friday at 3 p.m. at Aggie Soccer Field. Cal State Northridge, picked third, visits on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game.
