STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman catcher Spencer Brann hit a two-run home run in a three-run seventh inning for UC Davis, but the Aggie baseball team could not overcome an early lead from No. 25 Stanford, falling 11-4 on Tuesday at Sunken Diamond in Stanford.

UC Davis moves to 15-27 overall while Stanford improves to 27-16.

In the seventh inning, pinch hitter CJ Blom led off with a double down the right field line, setting up Brann who also entered the game as a pinch hitter. On the first pitch he saw, Brann sent a shot over the right field fence, bringing in two runs for the Aggies.

Later in the inning, Justin Andrade and Ryan Allgrove hit back-to-back singles, then Seth Batty walked to load the bases with only one out. The runners would all advance and Andrade would score the third run of the inning on a passed ball.

UC Davis' first run of the game came in the top of the fourth inning. Scott Heylman led off with a double down the left field line, then came home on sacrifice fly by Scott Lyman.

Stanford, however, built a large lead early that UC Davis could not recover from. The Cardinal put up four runs in the third inning, then five in the fourth inning to take a 9-1 lead. Stanford added another run in the fifth and seventh innings for the 11-4 win.

Blom finished 2-for-2 while the home run was Brann's only hit of the game. Andrade also went 2-for-2 while seven other Aggie batters recorded a hit.

For Stanford, Stephen Piscotty went 2-for-3 with three RBI while Austin Wilson was 3-for-5.

Freshman righty Harry Stanwyck picked up the loss to move to 1-3 after giving up eight runs on six hits in 3.1 innings of work. Ryan Lucas gave up two runs in 1.2 innings of relief work while Joe Biagini held Stanford to only one run on three hits and struck out four in three innings.

UC Davis continues its busy week with a game Wednesday against Santa Clara at Dobbins Stadium. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
