Final Stats
DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team had two singles wins but also suffered a pair of three-set losses en route to a 5-2 loss to Montana on Sunday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
After dropping the doubles point, the Aggies had some narrow defeats in singles competition despite wins from Connor Coates and Kyle Miller. UC Davis dropped to 3-8 on the season while the Grizzlies improved to 6-4.
The Aggies started the day with a win, as Nick Lopez and Coates took an 8-3 victory over Kuschke/Smith at No. 1 doubles. Montana bounced back in the final two matches, winning 8-6 and 8-4 at No. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.
Coates took the first singles win for UC Davis, posting a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win against Josh Smith. Miller also picked up a win after defeating Mikolak Caruk, 6-4, 7-5. Lopez couldn't get past Carl Kuschke at No. 1 singles, falling in a three-set match, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. Alec Haley was the other Aggie to fall in three sets, dropping a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 decision to David Cysneiros.
UC Davis will be back in action next weekend, facing Gonzaga at home on Saturday, Apr. 9.
