Final Stats
DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis won the doubles point and five out of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over Hawai'i Hilo on Tuesday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
The Aggies had three matches won in straight sets in singles action, along with come from behind victories for Kyle Miller and Alec Haley. With the win, UC Davis improved to 5-11 overall and 4-4 in home matches. Hawai'i Hilo dropped to 4-12 on the season.
After dropping the first doubles match in the No. 3 position the No. 66-ranked team of Nick Lopez and Connor Coates defeated Ryan Coffey and Bryan Canavan, 8-3. The Aggies secured the doubles point after Toki Sherbakov and Kyle Miller took an 8-4 win over Larson Oliva and Stephen Royalty.
UC Davis wasted no time in clinching the win, taking the first five matches in singles play. Chris Aria cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win over Kallen Mizuguchi in the No. 5 position for the first singles win. Lopez followed with a win at No. 1 singles, defeating Stephen Royalty, 6-4, 6-4. Sherbakov posted the deciding victory after downing Carlos Quijano, 6-1, 6-4. Haley and Miller each took wins after dropping the first set to round out the singles win. Haley defeated Olivia, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, while Miller had a 0-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Canavan.
The Aggies will play their final regular season match and celebrate senior day on Saturday, when they face Pacific in a 12 p.m. match.
