Final Stats

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State took a series sweep over the UC Davis softball team, after a 3-1 win on Sunday at the 49er Softball Complex.

Long Beach State held the edge in the pitcher's duel, with Erin Jones-Wesley taking her second victory of the weekend. Jessica Thweatt and Alex Holmes combined to allow just five hits and one earned run despite the loss. Long Beach State improved to 28-13 on the season with a 6-3 mark in Big West play, while UC Davis dropped to 18-19 and 3-6 in conference competition.

Holmes paced the Aggies with two hits while Elizabeth posted a hit and scored UC Davis' lone run of the game. Liz Javier tallied two hits, one RBI and one run scored for the 49ers.

Holmes started the game with a lead-off single and Kelly Schulze also tallied a single in the first inning. The Aggies came up empty however, after Jones-Wesley had three strikeouts to strand two runners.

Thweatt started in the circle for UC Davis, holding Long Beach State hit-less in the first three innings. The Aggies had the first score of the game, posting one unearned run on a hit and an error in the top of the fourth. Santana started the inning with a lead-off double and would later score thanks to an error and a wild pitch.

The UC Davis lead didn't last long, as the 49ers answered with two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Nalani St. Germain reached base on a throwing error. Javier and Jones-Wesley each followed with RBI singles to put Long Beach State up 2-1.

The Aggies stranded three on base in the final three innings and couldn't take advantage of two runners in scoring position in the fifth. The 49ers added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, using an RBI single from Dana Garcia to give Long Beach State a 3-1 advantage.

Taylor Petty closed out the game in the final two innings for the 49ers, earning her third save of the season after no hits and two strikeouts in two innings. Jones-Wesley improved to 16-4 on the season with the win, after allowing four and no earned runs, while striking out eight in five innings of work.

Thweatt took the loss for UC Davis, dropping to 6-5 on the season after two hits and no earned runs in 3.2 innings. Holmes threw 2.1 innings of relief and allowed three hits and one run.

UC Davis will be back in action next weekend, playing a three-game series against Cal State Fullerton at home, starting with a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 22 at 1:30 p.m.
