Final Stats

STANFORD, Calif. - Michelle Prong had a walk-off bases-clearing double in the bottom of the seventh to lift No. 12 Stanford to a 4-3 win over the UC Davis softball team Tuesday afternoon at the Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium.

The Aggies (12-11) gave the nationally ranked Cardinal (20-3) all they could handle, posting three runs in the top of the first and holding the lead up until the final batter of the game.

Heather Zimmerman led the UC Davis offense with a two-RBI hit in the first, while Kylie Fan also posted two hits on the day. Despite the early runs, the Aggies managed just five hits for the game. Jenna Rich was a perfect 4 of 4 for Stanford, while Ashley Hansen and Danielle Miller also posted multi-hit games.

The Aggies' first inning rally was started by an Alex Holmes lead-off single. A hit by pitch and two consecutive walks scored the first run to put UC Davis on the board. Zimmerman followed with a clutch, two-out two-RBI single to right field that gave the Aggies a 3-0 advantage.

The Cardinal posted their first run in the bottom of the second, using an Alix Van Zandt solo home run to cut into the UC Davis lead.

Holmes started in the circle for the Aggies and had the Stanford offense guessing through six innings. After allowing the home run, Holmes stranded five batters and scattered five hits, holding the Cardinal scoreless in the next four innings. Stanford entered the game ranked 8th in the nation in runs scored with 7.39 per contest.

Leading 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the trouble for UC Davis started with a Sarah Hassman lead-off single. Two more singles loaded the bases for the Cardinal with just one out in the inning. Prong handled the rest with her game-winning three-RBI double that gave Stanford a final 4-3 win.

Teagan Gerhart picked up the win to improve to 12-3 on the season after throwing a complete game and allowing three runs on five hits. Holmes took the loss and dropped to 7-8, after allowing 12 hits and striking out five in 6.1 innings of work.

UC Davis will return home for five games this weekend, hosting Saint Mary's, Santa Clara, Oregon State and California in the Aggie Stampede. All game times and team information can be found at the tournament central page.
