Final Stats
DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's tennis team swept in doubles competition before Connor Coates provided the clinching win in singles en route to a 5-2 nonconference victory over Nevada on Sunday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
UC Davis (2-6) played just its second home match of the season, improving to 1-1 in Davis while snapping a five-match losing streak with the victory. Nevada (2-5) dropped its third consecutive match, with all matches played on the road so far this season.
Nick Lopez and Coates set the tone at No. 1 doubles with the first win of the day after an 8-2 defeat of Wessim Derble and Quentin Mege. George Horowitz and Jack Horowitz had a close win to clinch the doubles point, defeating Phillip Hinojosa and Kyle Walker, 9-7. Alec Haley and Kyle Miller capped off doubles competition in the No. 2 position with a 9-8 (6) win over Nevada's duo of Kristian Kuharszky and Victor Ouvrard.
The Aggies took four out of six singles matches, starting with a win by Haley at No. 6. Haley won the first set 6-0 before Phillip Hinojosa retired. George Horowitz defeated Kyle Walker at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-1 before Coates had the clinching win with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of VIctor Ouvrard. Aria also had a win at No. 3 singles, taking a three-set victory over Kristian Kuharszky, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (5)
UC Davis will be back in action next weekend, playing Sonoma State at home in a noon match.
