LONG BEACH, Calif. - Kayleigh Foley and Ashley Chandler went one-two in the 100 freestyle, Liliana Alvarez won the 200 breaststroke and UC Davis set a school record in the 400 freestyle relay as the Aggie women's swimming and diving team concluded a dominating performance with a team title at the inaugural Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship.
The Aggies never relinquished the lead and accumulated 726 points to win their second straight conference championship since becoming an official member of Division I. Last season, UC Davis won the Big West Conference Championship before joining the MPSF.
UC Santa Barbara was second with 629 points while Cal Poly finished third with 614 points. San Diego was fourth with 408 points, Loyola Marymount finished fifth with 317 points and Northern Colorado was sixth with 247 points. Pacific (232), Seattle (201), and Cal State Bakersfield (200) were seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively.
Foley won the 100 freestyle in an NCAA "B" Consideration Standard time of 49.59 and was closely followed by Chandler, who finished second in the event in a time of 50.32.
In the 200 breaststroke, Alvarez outtouched UC Santa Barbara's Sophia Yamauchi by 0.23 seconds to win the event in a "B" time of 2:12.04. Kucera finished fourth, setting a "B" mark of her own after clocking in at 2:15.02.
In the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay, Foley, Linda Hermann, Kucera, and Chandler combined to win the event and set a UC Davis record with an NCAA "B" Consideration Standard time of 3:20.66. The relay team topped the previous record time of 3:21.24 which was set in 2010 by Chandler, Hermann, Bridget Bugbee and Foley.
Hermann finished second in the 200 backstroke, earning 17 valuable points for UC Davis, and freshman Megan Leung earned her second top-eight finish of the championship meet when she finished sixth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.45.
Grace Benefield and Bugbee finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1650 freestyle. Benefield recorded a time of 17:06.04 while Bugbee's fifth-place time was 17:09.55. Freshman Sarah Winters was 12th in the event with a time of 17:29.08.
Morgan Lee, Alyssa Britt and Julie Peri also earned points for the Aggies by finishing ninth, 11th and 16th, respectively in the 200 breaststroke.
UC Davis set six school records and 16 NCAA "B" Consideration Standard times during its championship run.
